There's a system of belief that, especially in Europe, there exist alignments of sacred sites called ley lines. One of the things you're told to look for when you're hunting for leys is long, straight roads which lead toward holy symbols or landmarks. By rule, leys are supposed to be absolutely straight, so such roads are good indicators that one site might be leading to the next.

Granted, the driveway leading up to this large wooden cross in the Guerneville cemetary isn't all that long, but I was struck by the symmetry of the scene; the straight avenue, the same bushes on either side, with the cross at the end.
