Somewhere I think my dad has a video of some film that was taken before and after the wedding, people coming and going from the church and all that. It's a bit sped-up, like so many home movies from that era are, and stands in my mind in contrast to the stillness of this and similar photos of my mother that were taken on that day.

They had this series of photos taken at their wedding, and in each one there's this light that comes over my mother's face. I know that the point is to make the bride look beautiful, but there always seems something a little unearthly about these photos. I've always enjoyed looking at them.

I think in this one she's probably waiting for the moment when she steps out into the aisle of church and everyone rises to look at her. Maybe she's looking at my dad, who's down in front, waiting.
