JULIANA HATFIELD Please Do Not Disturb

Juliana Hatfield's latest, due out Tuesday, is a six-song EP of eclectic sounds. In the opening "Sellout," the typically child-voiced Hatfield growls, "It's not a sellout if nobody buys it." Her lyrics and guitar tones in the tender "Trying Not to Think About It" suggest its subject is Jeff Buckley's death. A couple of songs are basic alt-rockers, but "Give Me Some of That" is so punked out, it's grating. "The Edge of Nowhere" closes the album with an eerie meditation on a lonely sunset. "Disturb" reveals Hatfield's ever-maturing songwriting and supplies a raw, underproduced feel that's refreshing.
